Today my lesson came from a source close to home, my daughter, she is a brilliant designer and it amazes me how she creates something out of nothing, as per my layman understanding. Truth be told I could not do what she does, I am very proud of her and I love watching her work.

MY LOVE JOURNEY REFLECTIONS

As we celebrate this month of love I find myself reflecting on my journey of love, a trip down memory lane rewinding my love tape to 25+ years back. I was then a University student and very new to the world of being alone, independent without the protective cover of my parents. Looking back I am not sure who found who, maybe what’s clear is who made the first move. This was my first serious relationship and as fate would have it my only till today, and I count myself blessed. There are many in my day, who thought they found love but it did not last and the reasons for that are as diverse as the reasons they thought they were in love. When I spotted my husband, I would write a book (wait, I have) on what my thoughts were at that exact moment I saw him.

LOVING SELF THIS MONTH

As we focus on self-love, I heard a famous author and motivational speaker say “I have dated me and I know me”. Honestly I was taken back by that loaded statement, how anyone can say that with confidence and conviction that made me believe it was real. That’s what we call a loaded statement, I mean even now I am still discovering some truths about myself, and that’s life I guess. It’s easy to date someone, and when you go on a date first there is the excitement of meeting that person, then on the actual date you genuinely want to know them and what they are all about. They make you laugh as they share their stories with you, can make you sad as they share their heart breaks and so forth. If the relationship has potential then getting to know the other person becomes mandatory almost as they also get to know you.

A LOVE LETTER TO YOURSELF

In this month of love, we continue to encourage self -love because you cannot withdraw from an empty vessel. The more you have the more you can give without losing yourself and your identity in the process. For as long as I can remember, we were taught to write essays ,compositions etc and we were required to write many pages, and for some of us a career in writing was born.

Welcome to February, the month of love they say and there will be very many remainders that indeed it is all about love. I always think that probably being the shortest month of the year it suits to be the month of love. Ideally it’s only the one day, but there will be reminders as early as the next week that it's valentines. All of us have mixed feelings about that day, some are excited about it and others wish it would pass quietly. Sadly disappointments of the day have made many relationships break, so if you are dating make sure you get a good gift.
